snathan, dig up the history of these winers and lets see what they have accomplished or contributed to this world. Being the first would indicate that person (according to your definition of power) would be extrememly powerful, right? Now ask them to pen an essay on any issue and lets compare that to another class topper who just exels in creative thinking. Or lets just give these two candidates a project to work on and lets see who comes up with better ideas or greater problem solving skills. I personally know a kid who did not make it to the final round but just fell short (this year) and honestly I can tell you that the only skill (yes, the only skill) she has is this one. She is not involved in music lessons, does not participate in science olympiad, advance math or anything of that sort. Now I have to admit that this is the only one candidate I know personally for this year. Let me be honest from the depth of my heart that there is no issue of jealousiness or envy here. This is just a frank opinion and as we have already seen, there are an equal number of people who dont think this is a competition that is to be given the importance it is being given.

Simple fact. I agree with you.

See we dont know what you wrote, so without that you might find people that find it offensive, simply because they have no idea what you just said.

It is like you going out with friends and one of them doesn not speak your language, so wouldnt you speak English to make sure he or she isnt left out and feels uncomfortable?

Plus if it gives people goosebumps and is a great piece of poetry share it all of us :-)

Thanks for clarification. I still disagree with you. Media outlets do measure the intensity of the issue but not by amount of SPAM they receive in e-mails. From my personal experince in talking to a journalist, if you send them an e-mail regarding the issue they have published they will definitely defend their point or refute yours and may even look at the issue from your point of view but in all cases they will reply. Now if you want to bring an issue to their attention all you need is take their article and simply put your perspective on it. It will have a far greater impact if it comes as a collective voice of an Organisation such as IV. That's why I originally questioned our approach of spaming them by sending 1000's of e-mail with the same issue. It doesn't bring much to the table. Right ? That's precisely the reason why all organisations have a media relations person who represents the collective view of the entire organization and manage the press releases and all contacts with media.

Tell me about getting a response from reporters. It all depends on their whims and fancies. If they want to write, they are after you. If they dont want to they evade your emails. You have already considered our emails SPAM :) Thats what it would be considered if a bunch of people send the exact same email body. If we do send different message, it might still occur to them or a click to these forums will make them feel that we are trying to get more media exposure. What if the reporter you are writing to has an opinion similar to that of Tancredo on H1B? You are talking about taking an article and putting a perspective on it. Can you be more elaborate? If you are talking about articles being written on us, I believe there are not a lot. How ever there are talk shows that go into every home in the country that do propaganda work. For example a reporter at NPR replied to my email, how ever she doesnt revisit any story atleast for an year. I agree with your idea of Press Releases and I believe it was discussed before. I believe Pappu is working on it and I can do any help needed. How ever, I do not agree that we will be considered SPAM unless its the same message COPY/PASTE. 1000 emails?? Are you kidding me? I am sure it hasnt gone beyond 10 and will not go beyond 25 in the worst case.

If you dont believe what I am saying try contacting the local radio/tv station and see how you the thing works. What you are talking is IDEAL, But we dont live in one. Do we?

My analysis is that immigrants tend to be better educated than native born because we (immigrants) need to double our effort to succeed. We learn proper English and try to correct our spelling. Native Americans speak English from the day they were born and sometimes can't translate the spoken words to letter.

I don't believe that there are races who are brighter or better than others. It's more of a culture and upbringing that makes the difference. Imagine those Spelling bee winners, who are now accustomed to US way of living. When they grow up, got their own family, will they instill the same values as their parents did or will they be like American Dad/Mom, who let their children pursue whatever they want?

I guess 3rd or 4th or 5th generation Indian-Americans will not differ from any other Americans in their values and upbringing. We will all get Americanized, in some way.

So EAD is screwed for lots of people, in our case its the E-filed AP. Filed on July 12 and booked tickets to India on Dec 26th and no sign of AP. Looks like we'll have to postpone or cancel the ticket. Thanks to friendly IO in TSC we heard that the photos (sent later thru snail mail) were not attached to the applications...So on the IO's suggestion we sent off a 2nd batch of pics...

Well, I've got all my fingers crossed...but I kind a know there may not be sights of lush green fields and beautiful kayals--aka backwaters in my immediate future...urgh..

IT and BPO outsourcing is also leading to Americanization of Indian youth and Indian youth are spending their high salaries on American products. In no time you will see American fast food chains, groceries, and many American MNCs cashing on a Americanized Indian crowd and neutralize ( and will eventually exceed the investments they make).

This is the beginning of Americanization. Most of you will not understand what I say because you are here in US for a long time and being first generation immigrants (on a limbo) keep up with your tradition. Americanization is like a slow bleed. IT and BPO is investment. Returns will come in form of MNCs and businesses and finally benefit American economy.

Just go back to India and look into the ITand BPO companies and lifestyles of people there. it will be 5 times higher than what we follow here as the Americanization is already induced.

Bottomline, do not underestimate America. They know what they do.

You are right they know what they do but it will be beneficial for US economy only. In terms to USD to INR, we will lose. Check the history and present.
In case of Japan, Yen was fixed to 360 Y to 1 $ in 1949.
By 1971 the yen had become undervalued. Japanese exports were costing too little in international markets, and imports from abroad were costing the Japanese too much. This undervaluation was reflected in the current account balance, which had risen from the deficits of the early 1960s to a then-large surplus of U.S. $5.8 billion in 1971. The belief that the yen, and several other major currencies, were undervalued motivated the United States' actions in 1971.

Following the United States' measures to devalue the dollar in the summer of 1971, the Japanese government agreed to a new, fixed exchange rate as part of the Smithsonian Agreement, signed at the end of the year. This agreement set the exchange rate at 308 per US$1.

In 1985 a dramatic change began. Finance officials from major nations signed an agreement (the Plaza Accord) affirming that the dollar was overvalued (and, therefore, the yen undervalued). This agreement, and shifting supply and demand pressures in the markets, led to a rapid rise in the value of the yen. From its average of 239 per US$1 in 1985, the yen rose to a peak of 128 in 1988, virtually doubling its value relative to the dollar. After declining somewhat in 1989 and 1990, it reached a new high of 123 to US$1 in December 1992. In April 1995, the yen hit a peak of under 80 yen per dollar, temporarily making Japan's economy nearly the size of the US.

This way both US and Japan economies are stabilized now but Yen value became high from 360 to 115 per dollar now.

It is happening with China also. Us is pressing China to raise the value of Yuan and devalue dollar against Yuan so US exports can be cheaper in China and Chinese exports can be expensive in US.

Future is India. After too much of outsourcing, INR will raise again USD and my guestimate is 1 USD to 20 INR after 10 years.

Time to convert all savings in INR.

:):) Well, if heart, mind, soul, ethics are already sold what can you expect?

What do you mean "heart, mind, soul, ethics were sold"? How do you know that? Just because someone called the U.S president "his president" does not mean he/she sold anything, let alone someone's soul and ethics. That is their right to call the U.S president his or hers.

What you said is totally uncalled for. If you are so patriotic, why are you applying for a green card and going by your own words, doesn't that mean you sold your ethics, heart, mind and soul too?

So you think we can only Plead? I agree.

What special do we have to offer that makes us important than CIR?

    Ask yourself

    Votes: no
    Contribution: no
How many of our employers are pleading for us?
How many citizens are pleading for us?

If you say we are paing taxes so we should get greencard. That does not make sense. We are using roads, hospitals, infrastucture of this country and we pay taxes as long we live here.

If you say we invent new things, start Google etc then these people qualify for EB1 and it is always current.

If you say we have USA masters then we can apply in EB2. EB2 will get current next year or its wait time is going to decrease and will be 2 years max. So 2 years or less is a reasonable processing time within a 6 year H1B processing time.

I am playing devils advocate here and trying to tell you to think beyond pleading. We did not come to this country to plead. Once you start thinking negative there are many negatives as I have written above and you will go in depression.

Who is stopping you from Meeting lawmakers? Have you done that?
Who is stopping you from contacting media? Have you done that?
Who is stopping you from contacting your CEO of the company and ask for help? Have you done that.
Who is stopping you from contacting organizations of Indian American citizens and ask for help?
Who is stopping you to do rallies everymonth on weekend in every state. Why are we not doing it if we are so depressed with Greencard.
Who is stopping you from contributing to IV?
Who is stopping us from doing lobby days in DC once every month?

Why can't we do. I have tried to do at least one item in this list. If we all at least pick one item, it will be enough.
    ==========

Thanks for your comments. Constructive debates are good!

From my side, I have done a little bit - contacting law makers, sending letters, contributing / collecting amounts from friends for advocacy...

I work for a large corporation and did talk to them seiorusly. They expressed their sympathy :) :) :) Nothing more !!!

Unfortunately we do not have unity and most people have either resigned themselves to their fate or expect others to work for them.

I humbly disagree with your opinion on EB2 becoming current. I think it will take 10 - 12 years to cross 2007. I do not wish for it, but that is the reality [assuming a vey high % age of porting (everyone eligible has a right to port, I am not questioning that)]

It is unfortunate that we do not the money or vote power. Like it or not, we have to follow the beaten track of "Prayer and Petition". Non US Citizen kids have to pay International college fees even if their parents have paid local taxes for 10 years. That is pathetic! I know people who had to separate from their families and send their familes to India as they could not afford paying International tuition fees which is about $ 45000.00 per annum. This solely affects Indians / Chinese. This literally makes you an outcast just because you do not hold a GC! Just think of some of the hardships people are facing.

If people from EU were to be back logged like Indians / Chinese, things would have been different!

I stand corrrected if I am wrong!

May the SUPREME POWER bless the EB2 / EB3 folks waiting ....for their GCs!!!

I would love to get involved with bunch of like minded people.....I have all the experience needed for starting and running a company. I have successully done thrice.....We have so many experienced folks who would love to start and run a company but lack the experience/knowledge of running one. it would be a good start to bring all such people to get together and pool our knowledge, skills, money and succeed.

Let me know what do u guys think... We can discuss next course of action.
